Jingshi Shen

University of Colorado

Biography

Jingshi Chen is a molecular/cell biologist in graduate school at Columbia University, where he worked with Dr. Ron Prywes to study ER stress regulation of ATF6, a membrane-tethered transcription factor activated by ER-Golgi transport and intramembrane proteolysis. He moved to join Jim Rothman’s laboratory as a Jane Coffin Childs Postdoctoral Fellow to address more fundamental issues in membrane trafficking. A pioneer in membrane biology, Jim discovered a number of central components of membrane transport including SNAREs, NSF and the COPI coat. While in Jim’s group, he addressed long-standing problems in neurobiology and cell biology regarding Sec1/Munc18 (SM) protein function and fusion specificity. In October 2008 he joined the faculty of the University of Colorado-Boulder.

Research Interest

Investigating the molecular mechanisms of regulated exocytosis using combined tools of biochemical reconstitution, biophysical analysis and cell-based transport assays.
