Pankaj Sharma is currently working as a postdoctoral fellow since 2009, at center for cancer research and therapeutic development, GA. Interest in oncology research moved her from California to Georgia. Her first postdoctoral fellow position was in children’s hospital Oakland Research Institute, CA.There she worked on vaccine development of Chlamydia trachomatis. Although her first postdoctoral fellowship was for short period but she learned lot about protein research which influenced her towards the field of proteomics. Her recent research work is based on protein-protein interaction study of bHLH transcriptional regulators and study the effect of this interaction on Androgen signaling pathway in prostate cancer. She finished her doctoral degree (in Genetics with minor in biochemistry) from Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, India. Being from an agricultural state, her doctoral research work is based on the genetics and biochemistry of soil microorganisms, which helps cultivated crops under drought stress conditions and can be used as a biofertilizers. She also received a university scholarship/award for this research program. She also served as a research associate in same university and later moved to US, to explore the field of molecular biology.
To understand molecular events where in a differentiated cell becomes undifferentiated, bypasses senescence, undergoes immortalization and eventually becomes transformed. By integrating a multitude of molecular, proteomic and genomic approaches to address the fundamental biology of these events that eventually leads to neoplastic transformation. The model systems that we use to address these molecular pathways are prostate cancer. Also how Id proteins helps in renewal and maintenance of stem cells. Interested in protein structural studies.
